About Us

Our Crew

Janeane Wyatt
Janeane

Human “radar,” Janeane is a highly skilled finder of all things…if an item is lost, she’ll unearth it.

Jason Wyatt
Jason

Oh Captain, Our Captain…Jason weathered all manner of storms our first season and consistently delivered us safely to port.

Emma

Always one to “boil the ocean,” Emma immediately jumped into actual ocean life with both feet, full speed ahead.

Jamie

Typical contrary teenager, Jamie appeared to dislike the Bahamas all season, but then proclaimed how much he’d miss island life.

Janeane Wyatt
Alice

Meet our feral child. On Alice’s first day of boat life, she immediately found all the other boat kids and created a gang of preteen/teen pirates.

Jason Wyatt
Ash

Ash is quite the “individual,” thinks he knows more than us, and thankfully doesn’t have opposable thumbs.

Scout

Scout is our “broken malinois”…more goofball than war dog, this guy makes everyone on board laugh.

SOME INSIGHTS

Our Mission & Vision

How we got to this point…

When we met almost 30 years ago, we were surprised to learn that we both shared the same dream to sail around the world. We were married in 2000, and the promise to fulfill this dream was included in our wedding vows. Over the years, we’ve owned a a Catalina 22’, a 27’ O’Day, and a 16’ Hobie Cat, with which we sailed on lakes and rivers. And before kids, we spent years training and enjoying technical scuba diving in locations such as Monterey, CA, Lake Tahoe, and parts of SoCal. And then “family” life happened in 2006, sweeping us up in the day to day importance of raising kiddos and investing for our future retirement.

The sailing dream sort of faded a bit, until we found ourselves about a decade away from real retirement, wondering what we would end up doing. We remembered our dreams and our wedding vows, and we began to take steps to shorten our decade-long timeframe, bit by bit.

A few years ago, a close friend of ours who was instrumental in introducing Jason to the idea of sailing, and who was a co-owner with us on our first monohull, was facing a hard cancer battle. Sadly, his health quickly declined, and he succumbed to this awful disease early-February 2024. Seeing him fight through this illness inspired us to accelerate our retirement plans, as we realized just how finite our time in this world can be. We re-evaluated our priorities and decided setting sail sooner than later was worth more than “waiting for the perfect time.”

Our Boat ~ SV Orion

SV Orion is a 2006 Lagoon 440 Owners Model. We’re the 7th owners, and looking to make her our home for a long time.

Choosing a boat is one of those crazy experiences. You start out with so many different ideas, big dreams, a fast boat that is also comfortable and affordable (unicorn), and then you start the process of choosing a boat. We needed something safe, comfortable, stable, and something that would help us make our journey possible.

We started out thinking we wanted an Outremer or something fast, but then as we got on those boats, we found that the living space wasn’t enough, at least for our price range to do this sooner than later. The fly bridge boats were at the bottom of our list, as we felt the raised boom would take too much away from the sailing experience. That is until we got on our friend’s Chris and Heidi’s Lagoon 440, and we sat in the fly bridge for the first time. It felt like home, and we’ve been very happy with our choice.

We are a family of three introverts and two extroverts, and the layout with a space up front, the fly bridge, the rear salon, and inside area is the perfect way for the two extroverts to survive the introverts’ wrath, when they can’t get away to recharge.
