Our Crew

Meet the crew of SV Orion

Janeane grew up in a small suburban town in the Sacramento, CA area and had way too many interests to be able to choose a solid college major or career path…a Jill of all trades, master of none type.  She’s accomplished “careers” from retail merchandising to writer/editor to zoo educator to construction management.  It wasn’t until the age of 32 that she settled down to be a housewife/stay at home mom. Three kids and 18 years later, she’s looking forward to making a decades long dream a reality with Jason.

Jason grew up in California, joined the California Army National Guard just out of high school in 1989, floundered for a bit, and then met Janeane in 1996. Started as a self taught software engineer, and worked from 1997 until 2024, more details here.

Really looking forward to more time with family, and the adventures ahead.

Over the years, Emma, Jamie, and Alice have learned that their parents are a bit “outside the box.”  Between homeschooling, skiing for PE, and taking cross-country camping trips in the middle of the winter for vacation, they’ve grown up with lots of adventures.  So it wasn’t completely surprising when we sold the house, gave away most of our things, and moved them onto a boat.

Ringo, Ash, and Scout our our dogs on this journey. We tend to have 2 dogs, roughly the same age, until one of them passes. Ringo (13 1/2) is an Australian Cattle dog who was part of the 2nd generation of dogs we’ve had. Ash (3) is a Border Collie, German Sheperd, Malinois mix, and Scout (2 1/2) is a pure bread Malinois. They represent our 3rd generation, after Ponto passed away 3 years ago.

They’re all getting the hang of boat life, and really enjoying more time with the family and all the adventures.
